In your toilet search, you’ll come across the terms “one-piece” and “two-piece” often. What does this mean and does it make a difference? Check out our explanation down below along with our top 7 favorite two-piece toilets.
Toilet shopping can be harder than it looks. With so many terms being thrown around how do you know where to start and what to look for?
We are here to make things easier to ensure that you choose the perfect two-piece toilet that best matches your interests.
The difference between one-piece and two-piece toilets is in the name.
✓ One-piece toilets has a tank and bowl in single seamless piece (no joints or seams)
✓ Two-piece toilets has a separate tank and bowl and fitted together with tank bolts.
Since one-piece toilets are a single piece design, they are heavier than two-piece toilets to install (cannot detach the tank and bowl for easy moving).
One-piece toilets tend to be easier to clean because their seamless design does not have joints and seams where bacteria might build up.
An advantage of two-piece toilets is being able to replace just the tank or bowl, if needed.
Our experts gathered facts and took a close look at the top-rated two-piece toilets on the market.

“The Corbelle is our editor’s choice because we truly believe it’s one of Kohler’s greats. The two-piece model is effortlessly elegant, reliable, and comfortable. What more could you want?”
We love Kohler because of its unbeatable glaze and flushing technology. The Corbelle is another example of how simple units can be the most effective.
Flushing Ability
At 1.28 gallons per flush, this unit saves you thousands of gallons a year when compared to traditional 1.6 GPF units. By saving water you also save hundreds of dollars on your annual water bill – a true win-win!
Though 1.28 GPF may seem too good to be true, we can attest to the fact that the Corbelle does not sacrifice suction power.
In its precision engineered tank, bowl, and trapway, the Corbelle harnesses the power of gravity to create an extra-strong siphon with Revolution 360 flushing technology. Water streams into the bowl from all sides guaranteeing no streaks behind.
The Corbelle has a MaP score of 1,000 grams – the highest score possible! The MaP score tells you how many grams of solid waste a toilet can remove in a single flush.
The high-quality AquaPiston canister further increases efficiency by letting water flow in through every side of the bowl. Additionally, the toilet’s trapway is a bit over two inches, increasing water flow for easy waste removal.
The Corbelle also has the Kohler-signature light-touch canister which requires a lower actuation force than a flapper. The canister’s design has 90% less exposed seal material than the traditional three-inch flapper, reducing the chance of leakage. The flush valve’s 3:2 ratio further optimizes flush performance through the power of gravity.
Design & Style
Kohler is known for its intuitive designs that elevate the user experience. The Corbelle is an ADA-compliant unit, with its 16-1/2″ rim height and elongated bowl shape. The chair-like height makes sitting and standing up hassle-free while the bowl shape helps disperse user body weight for a more comfortable experience.
The toilet is available in white, biscuit, dune, ice grey, and black black; it comes with a left-hand polished chrome trip lever. The lever is easy to push and can be reached even when you’re sitting down. We think this toilet would best fit in a traditional bathroom setting because of its nice, clean angular features and slightly curved tank cover.
The toilet has a standard 12” rough-in but we noticed that a 10” rough-in kit is also available, making the Corbelle a fantastic fit even for small bathrooms. A 14” rough-in kit is available as well.
A seat and supply line must be purchased separately. The toilet is compatible with the Kohler Quiet-Close elongated toilet seat and elongated bidet toilet seat with remote control.
Our experience with this Kohler collection is that installation is very simple thanks to the patented ReadyLock installation system. This system saves time and stress by eliminating the need for drilling; instead, the unit can be floor-mounted without professional help.
Cleanliness
One of the best features of the Corbelle is how it keeps itself clean. The Corbelle has Kohler premium CleanCoat surface treatment which inhibits the growth of water scale and mineral stains. This helps cut down on cleaning by preventing potential stains from lingering.
You can even upgrade this feature through the K-5709 Corbelle model which comes with the ContinousClean XT system, an automated cleaning solution dispenser that cleans your bowl with every flush.
The Corbelle’s skirted trapway is another fantastic design perk. The smooth cranny-free exterior eliminates any potential areas where dirt and grime might accumulate.
Overall the Corbelle is an affordable model that we love. But don’t just take it from us. Check out the toilet’s Amazon reviews and you’ll see how much others enjoy the toilet’s easy maintenance and powerful flushing system.

“The Entrada makes our Top 6 because of its standard, affordable model that gets the job done at a fair price.”
This TOTO toilet is a solid addition to any bathroom that doesn’t break the bank.
Flushing Ability
The Entrada is equipped with TOTO’s E-Max flushing system. The system produces consistent, powerful flushing through an extra-large siphon jet.
Excellent suction strength is delivered with every press of the lever. Another great aspect of the system is that even with all its power, the E-max is reasonably quiet! You can also have a clean shutoff at any water pressure.
The Entrada uses 1.28 gallons per flush, saving you thousands of gallons of water and hundreds of dollars in savings, when compared to traditional 1.6 GPF units.
The Entrada has a MaP score of 1,000 grams – the highest score possible! The MaP score tells you how many grams of solid waste a toilet can remove in a single flush.
Design & Style
Even at its affordable price, the Entrada is smartly designed. The two-piece toilet is ADA-compliant, with a universal seat height of 17-1/4”. This surpasses the minimum ADA height requirement, making the toilet extra comfortable by alleviating knee pressure in sitting and standing up. The toilet also has an elongated bowl which helps disperse body weight when sitting down.
The Entrada comes in two models – the CST244EF and CST244EFR. The former has a left-hand chrome trip lever while the latter has a right-handed one.
The toilet comes with an elongated front bowl, tank and cover, and a trip lever. A seat needs to be purchased separately. TOTO recommends the SoftClose seat, a no-frill addition that eliminates unwanted seat slamming. A standard 12″ rough-in is required for installation.
We think this toilet would best fit in a modern bathroom setting because of its slightly curved tank and seamless skirted trapway. The toilet comes in one color – cotton.
Overall this toilet is the epitome of “you get what you see” – but that’s not a bad thing. The Entrada is an awesome choice for those on a budget because it’s affordable and reliable. Chances of leaks or clogs are very low due to the E-max flushing system and the ADA compliance optimizes the user experience.
The Entrada has over 250 Amazon reviews, with over 70% of them being five stars. Users love the discounted price, low water usage, and powerful flush. The most common complaint is that the toilet does not come with a seat. Some users note that their toilet arrived broken due to the shipping method, but this was resolved once they spoke with TOTO customer service.

The toilet comes with a tank, tank cover, bowl, trip lever, and bolt cap accessory pack. A supply line and wax ring are not included but are needed for installation. Keep in mind that a seat is not included either.
This toilet utilizes three-bolt quick-connect installation, you won’t need professional help! Simply install the floor-mount/floor outlet toilet according to Kohler’s beginner-friendly instructions.
The Highline’s reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Positive reviews praise the toilet’s clog-free flushing performance, noting the toilet’s reliable suction strength. Pros and Cons
The Tornado Flush system – along with the reliable 1.6 GPF – make every press of the lever hassle-free
“The TOTO Drake collection is no-frills but still impressive. While it may look like your average toilet, the Drake delivers with the classic TOTO flushing system. We especially love the Universal Height that makes sitting enjoyable.”
With the TOTO Drake collection, the magic is in the details. While the two-piece elongated unit features many universal elements present in the collection, we find its specific design perks make the toilet a comfortable fit, worthy of extra praise.
Flushing Ability
The TOTO Drake is equipped with the all-powerful TOTO Tornado flushing system. The toilet’s two powerful nozzles create an ultra-strong centrifugal force that takes care of business without leaving any remnants or streaks behind. The powerful nozzles are used instead of traditional rim holes to efficiently clean out the bowl with every flush.
The TOTO Drake two-piece toilet uses 1.6 gallons per flush – an industry standard. However, paired with the Tornado Flush system, any worry about clogging goes out the window.
This Drake has a MaP score of 1,000 grams – the highest score possible!
Cleanliness
The Drake is equipped with TOTO’s signature CEFIONTECT glaze. This glaze uses an ion barrier to reduce the chance of grime and bacterial buildup. What does this mean for you? No need for daily toilet wipe-downs. CEFIONTECT takes care of most of the work, so all you have to do is occasionally wipe down the toilet with mild soap and water.
This unit comes in two other models – CST776CSFG and CST776CSF. The former comes without a seat and with CEFIONTECT ceramic glaze while the latter comes without CEFIONTECT. The CST776CSFG is available in white, bone, colonial white, and beige, while the CST776CSF is only available in ebony.
The TOTO Drake collection is also designed with a larger-than-most water spot that helps eliminate tough-to-reach spaces that attract waste. The toilets’ rimless design prevents dirt from clinging to the top of the toilet bowl, making cleaning up a breeze.
Design & Style
We love the TOTO Drake two-piece model because of its accessible features and easy installation. The toilet’s rim height stands at 16 ⅛”, satisfying ADA standards. A user’s body weight can be easily dispersed thanks to the comfortable elongated bowl. The toilet comes with a left-hand chrome-plated trip lever and a 12” rough-in that reduces any chance of waste buildup.
We think this toilet would best fit in a modern bathroom setting because of its boxy tank and seamless skirted trapway.
This two-piece toilet has been praised for its simple installation process, with a 4.6 out of 5-star rating. The product comes with a tank and bowl; a seat and wax ring are not included. Though a seat is not included, you can upgrade your user experience by purchasing the additional WASHLET electronic bidet seat. We highly recommend purchasing the bidet seat as the two-piece elongated unit is exceptionally well-priced.
The toilet is available in Cotton, Bone, Colonial White and Sedona Beige. If you’re not interested in the CEFIONTECT glaze, the unit also comes in Ebony.
Users praise the toilet for how easy the unit is to install and how every flush delivers without fail. The most common complaints aren’t about the toilet’s performance. Users wish the product came with a toilet seat and wax ring. But at this price, buying a seat separately is no big deal.

“No, your eyes don’t deceive you. We love the TOTO Drake collection so much we had to include another unit on our Top 6 list. This model is one of our faves because it caters to those that prefer a lower seat.”
While many features of this model may be the same as its CST776CSF(G) counterpart, this unit has one key difference: height.
Flushing Ability
This unit is also equipped with TOTO’s Tornado flushing system. The system uses two powerful nozzles to create an ultra-strong centrifugal force that delivers excellent suction strength. This means every waste load is removed without leaving streaks or stains behind. The Tornado system also uses powerful nozzles instead of traditional rim holes to efficiently clean out the bowl with every flush as well.
The TOTO Drake two-piece toilet uses 1.6 gallons per flush – an industry standard. It has a MaP score of 1,000 grams – the highest score possible!
Cleanliness
This unit is also equipped with TOTO’s signature CEFIONTECT glaze which uses an ion barrier to reduce the chance of grime and bacterial buildup. Reduced chance of buildup means less cleaning work down the road.
This unit comes in two other models – CST776CSG and CST776CS. The former comes without a seat and with CEFIONTECT ceramic glaze while the latter comes without CEFIONTECT. The CST776CSG is available in cotton, bone, colonial white, sedona beige, while the CST776CS is only available in ebony.
We think this toilet would best fit in a modern bathroom setting because of its boxy tank and seamless skirted trapway.
Design & Style
The biggest difference between the two Drake units on our list is the height. While the CST776CSF(G) has a seat height of 16-1/8″, the CST776CS(G) has a seat height of 15-1/16”. The 15-1/16” seat height does not succumb to ADA standards, so this model is a better fit for those who do not require extra assistance; it may also be more comfortable for those shorter in height.
Seat height is a matter of preference. If you know you prefer a lower height and that your bathroom will mostly be used by you, then the CST776CS(G) is a good choice.
The toilet is available in cotton, colonial white, sedona beige, and bone. If you’re not interested in the CEFIONTECT glaze, the unit also comes in ebony. The toilet comes with a left-hand chrome-plated trip lever and a 12” rough-in that reduces any chance of waste buildup.
The Drake collection offers many different model variations. We suggest you look at the options we listed below to make sure you choose the best options for your needs. All TOTO Drake toilets come with the state-of-the-art Tornado Flush system and CEFIONTECT glaze. The major differences are in the bowl shape and water usage per gallon.
Comparison with Dual Flush Drake Model
The MS746124CEMG, or the TOTO Drake two-piece model has two flushing options as opposed to the CST776CS(G) – 0.8 and 1.28 GPF. The dual-flushing mechanism allows you to select between 0.8 and 1.28 gallons per flush based on your waste load.
This toilet is more expensive than the model on this list because it comes with a SoftClose seat. You can also further customize the model by selecting between a cotton, brushed nickel, or polished nickel trip lever. Although the dual flush model may be more expensive, it may save you more money and water through its efficient flush. Buyers must weigh the benefits of immediate costs versus long-term expenses, like annual water bills.
Users like the toilet’s lower seat height and the reliable Tornado flush system. Some users praise the toilet’s glossy glaze and color selection. The most common complaint is that the toilet doesn’t come with a seat, which is typical for toilets in this price range.

This model has a chair-like height of 17-1/4″ and an elongated bowl. It comes with a bowl, tank, tank-to-bowl gasket, tank-to-bowl hardware, and toilet bolt caps. A seat is also included, which at this price is a nice surprise. However, a water supply line is not included.
We think this toilet would best fit in a modern bathroom setting because of its boxy tank and seamless skirted trapway.
Cleanliness
This toilet has classic ELLAI advanced clean technology. The ceramic glaze minimizes waste from sticking to porous ceramic surfaces so after every flush you’re met with a clean bowl. No more intense scrubbing to bring back your toilet’s original shine and glimmer! Thanks to the ceramic glaze you’ll save on stress and cleaning time!
For the most part, users love this ELLAI model, citing the toilet’s enticing price and surprisingly strong flush. Users also praise the toilet for its comfortable height. The most common complaint is that the toilet arrived broken due to a tumultuous shipping process. Other users note the seat which comes with the toilet is difficult to take off once installed.

“The Highline is one of our favorites because of its effortlessly beautiful and comfortable design.”
Kohler toilets are widely known for minimal yet quite modern design, and the Kohler Highline is no different.
Flushing Power
The Highline uses Kohler’s Class Five flushing technology to reduce the likelihood of clogs. The single-flush gravity system utilizes gravitational force for an extra-strong flushing siphon. Siphon strength is optimized through Kohler’s specially engineered tank, bowl, and trapway.
The toilet uses 1.28 gallons per flush and has an MaP score of 1,000 grams - the highest one possible!
Design & Style
The Highline has a fresh look due to its tank’s cool curve and rounded bowl. The toilet would look great in any bathroom aesthetic because of its adaptable structure.
This ADA-compliant toilet stands at 16.5” and comes with an elongated bowl. The chair-like height makes sitting and standing up extra easy.
The Highline comes with a tank, tank cover, bowl, trip lever, and bolt cap accessory pack. A supply line and wax ring are not included but are needed for installation. Installation is extra easy thanks to Kohler’s simple three-bolt quick connect.
It’s important to note that a seat is not included.
Although you have to purchase a seat separately, the toilet is compatible with most of Kohler’s accessories, such as the Cachet Quiet-Close Seat and the Purefresh elongated seat!

While the connection point is a potential leak point, you can drastically reduce the chances of leakage by calling in professional help during the installation process.
