Flushing Capability

The Nexus features classic TOTO Tornado Flush technology. This design utilizes two nozzles to create an extra-strong centrifugal force that helps remove any pesky grime or bacterial buildup. At only 1.28 gallons per flush, the Nexus is a fantastic eco-and-budget-friendly pick.

Just as the name suggests, the Tornado Flush system is a force to be reckoned with. The toilet’s cyclonic rinsing action brings more power in one flush than many other units do across multiple ones.

Design

The Nexus is a comfortable fit for most users thanks to its universal height and elongated front bowl. If users install the trip lever on the approach side, the toilet then is also fully ADA-compliant. A SoftClose seat is available as well.

The toilet comes with a chrome-plated trip lever in three options – cotton, brushed nickel, and polished nickel. There are four different Nexus combinations you can purchase as well: elongated bowl with CEFIONTECT, elongated bowl without CEFIONTECT, tank and cover only, or SeatClose included.

For models with the CEFIONTECCT glaze, cotton, sedona beige, bone, and colonial white units are available. The only model without the CEFIONTECT glaze comes in black. We love the CEFIONTECT glaze because it makes cleaning a true pleasure. You only need mild soap and water once in a while to make this unit glisten like it’s brand new. The toilet’s skirted design also prevents bacterial buildup through the lack of nooks and crannies.

The Nexus is also compatible with the Toto Washlet+ bidet system. This optional addition is easy to install and features a quick release function. The electronic bidet is also smartly designed to eliminate debris through its seamless set up.

Summary of Reviews

Because the Nexus is a new model, the toilet does not many in-depth user reviews. From the reviews available, users are pleased with the unit’s flushing efficiency and sleek look.

Users also like the CEFIONTECT glaze as it cuts down cleaning time. The most common compliants about the Nexus are its price, as the toilet sells in the high hundreds, without a built-in bidet.

This fantastic two-piece unit offers several advanced features including classic state-of-the-art TOTO flushing technology.

Flushing Power

The Aquia IV uses Tornado Flush technology to eliminate waste in a matter of seconds. The Tornado system uses two powerful nozzles instead of rim holes to simultaneously push out waste and clean the bowl. Another awesome feature is the toilet’s bowl design which reduces water flow resistance, in turn creating a quieter flushing noise.

Two flush options are available – .8 gallons per flush and 1.28 gallons per flush. The EPA WaterSense certified flushing system saves you over 20 percent on your annual water bill, when compared to traditional 1.6 gallon per flush toilets.

Instead of a lever, the Aquia IV has a chrome push-button.

Impressive Design

The Aquia IV is made of vitreous china and comes in cotton and sedona beige. For made-to-order units, the model is also available in bone, colonial white, and ebony (without CEFIONTECT).

The TOTO Aquia IV comes with a CEFIONTECT glaze which prevents grime from sticking to the toilet’s exterior; the glaze also keeps the toilet nice and shiny. Less grime buildup means less time cleaning. All that’s needed is a wipe down every once in a while.

Dual Flush TOTO Aquia IV model The toilet’s skirted design also prevents bacterial buildup by eliminating hiding places for dirt to latch onto. The Aquia IV comes with an elongated toilet bowl and a seat height of 17”. Both the height and the width allow users to comfortably sit on the model by alleviating any bodily strain.

The unit can be purchased in three packages. MS446124CEMGA comes with CEFIONTECT glaze, a SS124 SoftClose seat, and auto flush. MS446124CEMG also comes with CEFIONTECT and a SS124 SoftClose seat, but does not include auto flush. MS446124CEM includes SoftClose seat SS124 but does not come with CEFIONTECT glaze.

You can also purchase the SS234 SoftClose seat and WASHLET adapter separately. WASHLET is TOTO’s signature removable bidet seat which can be purchased and added for most TOTO toilets.

Additional Features

If you choose to upgrade to the WASHLET bidet seat, you’ll get a remote control to adjust the temperature and pressure.

The bidet comes with a wand you can angle however you wish as well. There are multiple WASHLET units available, from the SW3004 Elongated seat to the S550E contemporary classic. You can also match the bidet to the color of your toilet for that effortlessly camouflaged look.

Sometimes it’s hard to visualize a toilet without actually seeing it in person. This YouTube video is the next best thing, giving you a close-up of every small feature the Aquia IV has to offer.

The TOTO Drake II excels at quality in its league by being one of the best TOTO toilets. This toilet has an elongated bowl made from vitreous china material and is available in five different colors. The brand glazes all but its ebony design with the TOTO proprietary protective finish – the CeFiONtect coating.

technology and features of the Drake II, Tornado Flush, efiontct

The TOTO Drake II is 16.1 inches tall without a seat, but can be upped to ADA compliance with a toilet seat to make it comfortable for the elderly and people with mobility difficulties.

This Drake II toilet has a chrome left-hand trip lever that is really comfortable to use. However, it also features right-hand trip lever models, as well.

The TOTO Drake II toilet has the standard 12-inch rough-in fitting, and since the Drake II is a two-piece toilet, its installation is really easy and can be done with little to no reconstruction.

This TOTO toilet has a flush valve, Tornado flush system, and a 2 ⅛-inch fully glazed trapway that makes flushing with this toilet easy and efficient. Since the TOTO Drake II uses a maximum of 1.28 gallons per flush, it’s EPA WaterSense certified. This could save monthly water bill costs using this toilet.

Other varieties of the TOTO Drake II toilet include:

  • Dual-flush models
  • Other single flow rating models
  • Round bowl models
  • Toilet + Washlet variations

Now, the Drake II toilet is somewhat not up-to-date with designs like the lack of a bolt-down lid or an insulated tank, but since its rough-in fitting is pretty standard, customers shouldn’t have much problem setting it. However, it requires separate purchases of a wax ring and supply line.

One negative, the TOTO Drake II has a relatively low water surface level in the bowl, about 7 ⅛” by 9 ⅛”, which doesn’t guard well against streaks or odors like the competitor Kohler Cimarron does. Since customers say it flushes really well, we love that feedback about this toilet.

The TOTO Drake II shares similar features with the TOTO Entrada. The Entrada differs only in the flush system type. The Entrada uses the E-max flushing system instead of the G-max.

Compared to the Drake I, the TOTO Drake II is more stylish, takes up less space, features the protective CeFiONtecT glaze, and consumes less water.

Our Final Take

The flush performance of the TOTO Drake II is a fan favorite. Many customers mentioned they no longer need plungers, since it never clogs

Customers also love the easy installation and comfort height of this toilet. However, a few customers mentioned the glaze coating isn’t as effective as they’d thought, making cleaning a little difficult.

The TOTO Neorest has unparalleled flushing ability, flushing out and cleaning more in one flush than most toilets do in several attempts.

The flush can also be operated by sensor, making the experience even more sanitary and convenient.

The bowl is made of an exceptionally smooth Cefiontect ceramic that prevents particles from sticking to the bowl (which means less cleaning for you!)

Further, TOTO’s Ewater+ system covers the bowl with electrolyzed water in order to constantly keep the bowl clean without the need for toxic cleaning chemicals.

These three sustainable features create an unmatched hygienic experience.

The style of this toilet is very sleek and modern. It’s edgy, linear design blends seamlessly and accentuates any bathroom space. The design is impeccable, offering a heated seat with temperature control as well as a multitude of other remote control options such as the bidet pulsating spray and warm air dryer.

The TOTO Carlyle II impresses customers with its low water consumption, but excellent flush performance.

Technology shown on left side of Carlyle II, 1.0 GPF

The Carlyle II toilet uses the Double Cyclone flush system, also called the Tornado flush, like the TOTO Drake II toilet.

But this time, this TOTO Carlyle II toilet has a single flush system of 1.0 GPF, making it EPA WaterSense certified.

The TOTO Carlyle II toilet has an elongated bowl that is comfortable to sit on and consumes less floor space through its one-piece design.

However, one-piece toilets are often much harder to move about since they are heavier, but the TOTO Carlyle II makes up for its flaws in more ways than one.

This Carlyle toilet features the CeFioNtect protective glaze in all 5 color options, making it easy to clean, and its skirted base gives it a beautiful appeal.

This toilet is also available in three different rough-in options, though the 14 and 10-inch rough-in models come at additional costs.

The TOTO Carlyle II toilet has a rimless bowl, just like the Drake II model.

We noticed during our research that many customers complained about its PVC rough-in construction, not because of a functional flaw, but because porcelain materials look better. However, PVC materials are better at chemical resistance than porcelain toilets, so most plumbing materials are made from PVC.

The Carlyle II is like the Carolina II, but it is a one-piece toilet and has ADA certification. While the Carolina II is a two-piece toilet and not ADA compliant.

This TOTO Carlyle II improves on the Carlyle toilet with less water consumption, more certifications, and a stylish design. It can be purchased in right or left trip lever designs.

The Carlyle II is also available in 1.28 GPF single flush systems and some of its models feature up to 8 trip lever material.

The TOTO Vespin II is somewhat like the TOTO Drake II. The primary difference between the Vespin II and the Drake II is the base design and flushing system.

technology and main features of the Vespin II, Tornado Flush

The Vespin II has a skirted base that makes it easy to clean, but lacks dual flush system that some Drake II models have available. However, the Vespin II is still water-efficient, since it uses 1.28 gallons per flush, meeting EPA WaterSense standards.

The Vespin II toilet has an elongated bowl and measures about 16.1-inches in height without the seat. With a seat, it will meet ADA compliance standards. The design team coated its entirety with the CeFioNtect glaze, and it has a 2 ⅛-inch wide concealed trapway for enhanced performance of its Tornado flush.

Although the TOTO Vespin II is a standard 12-inch rough-in fitting, it can be purchased as a 10 or 14-inch rough-in toilet at an extra cost. It also comes in 5 bowl colors, 9 material trip lever colors and 2 trip lever positions.

According to some customers, its installation is not straightforward, since it requires a special mounting bracket and does not come with a seat, a supply line, or a wax ring.

The Vespin II upgrades from the Vespin I being ADA compliant and now features the double cyclone flush system. It’s a reworking of the G-max flush of the Vespin I, along with an improved CeFioNtect glaze.

The TOTO UltraMax toilet is an old but still top-rated model of the TOTO brand. Customers love this toilet for its high power flush system.

technology and main features shown on left of the Ultramax, G-Max flush system, 1.6 GPF

The TOTO UltraMax toilet uses the G-max flush system and has the CeFioNtect glaze in some of its models and utilizes a 2 ⅛-inch trapway. This combination allows for the entire bowl to be cleaned thoroughly during every flush.

The UltraMax is available in the elongated one-piece design that is comfortable to sit on and has a rounded front design that saves space. It has a height of 15.6 inches including the toilet seat.

Both models come with a SoftClose seat, a very thoughtful inclusion since most modern toilets do not come with a seat, nor SoftClose, which never slams.

Except for the CeFioNtecT glazed models, they are available in 4 colors for shoppers to make personalized selections.

All the TOTO UltraMax toilets feature a 12-inch rough-in fitting and do not adjust to fit any other sizes. However, since most bathrooms have a 12-inch configuration, this toilet has a common size, which purchasers can appreciate.

It uses more water than most toilets on our list – 1.6 GPF, but puts it to good use, as there are no complaints about clogging.

Let’s compare the UltraMax and the Eco-UltraMax. While they bear a few similarities, they are quite different. The TOTO Eco-UltraMax uses less water than the UltraMax toilet and features the E-max flush system.

And then, there is the UltraMax II – an upgrade of the TOTO UltraMax toilet, which is the next toilet in this review.

The TOTO Eco Soiree is another unique TOTO toilet that complements its design with efficiency.

technology shown on left of Eco Soiree, Tornado flush system and 1.28 GPF

The Eco Soiree toilet comes in a one-piece design with an elongated bowl toilet. It measures 17.3-inches, meeting ADA compliant standards thus positioning itself as a comfortable toilet for seniors and people with disabilities.

The TOTO Eco Soiree comes in five different colors, and all except the black features the special CeFioNtecT glaze. It also has a skirted base making it easier to clean.

The Eco Soiree toilet is EPA WaterSense certified, as it uses only 1.28 GPF and meets HET (high efficiency toilets) standards with its Tornado flush system. Its CeFioNtecT glaze extends to its 2 ⅛-inch concealed trapway to move waste expulsion further.

The Eco Soiree is available in non-glazed models too. Also unlike the others toilets discussed in this article, the Eco Soiree toilet comes standard with a SlowClose seat.

The TOTO Eco Soiree uses the standard 12-inch rough-in and is available for purchase in the 10 and 14-inch rough-in sizes at an additional cost. Its also available in three different trip lever colors.

The Eco Soiree has a low water surface area of 7-⅞ inch by 9-13/16 inch.

The TOTO Supreme II toilet pretty much takes a cue from all the best TOTO toilets on this list. It comes in a one-piece design and an elongated bowl. It also features a CeFioNtecT glaze from its bowl down to its trapway.

technology shown with main features of the Supreme II, 1.28 GPF, universal height

The Supreme II toilet uses only 1.28 GPF in its Tornado flush system, passing EPA WaterSense certification standards and meets HET (high efficiency toilets) standards.

Since it has a seat height of about 17.2-inches, it is also ADA compliant and is a suitable toilet for seniors and persons with disabilities.

This TOTO toilet comes with a SoftClose seat, which takes it steps ahead of most modern toilets, but it does not come with the bolts, nuts, screws and other installation hardware.

Some other model variations like the MS634114CEF, lacks a CeFioNtecT glaze.

The TOTO Supreme II also has the standard 12-inch rough-in fitting, suitable for most bathroom configurations. However, customers claim the flush isn’t so effective – they have to hold down the lever while it flushes to make it work.

Also, some customers report that sometimes “a single flush doesn’t do the trick.” But, from the product ratings and other reviews, it appears the TOTO Supreme II is making a lot of customers happy.

In most aspects, the TOTO Supreme II is similar to the Ultramax II toilet.

The TOTO Supreme II is available in 4 color options and 7 Trip lever colors.

The TOTO UltraMax II improves on the TOTO UltraMax with its low water consumption and several other modifications. This toilet is a single flush piece with a water rating of 1.28 GPF that meets EPA WaterSense certification.

technology and main features shown on left side of Ultramax II

The UltraMax II supports its low water consumption with a Tornado flushing technology and a fully glazed 2 ⅛-inch trapway.

The one-piece, elongated bowl toilet has a rim height of about 16.12-inches, making the toilet suitable for seniors and people with mobility limitations.

The TOTO UltraMax II has a quiet flush system, and its tank fills up relatively fast, making it a suitable toilet for high-traffic restrooms. The UltraMax II toilet comes with a SlowClose seat like the UltraMax toilet and has the standard 12-inch rough-in fitting.

Due to its one-piece design, its slightly harder to move around, but relatively easy to install.

There are three toilets similar to the TOTO UltraMax II; Eco-UltraMax, Drake II, and the Vespin II.

The UltraMax II is much lighter than the Eco-UltraMax and the Vespin II, at 75 pounds. It does not have a dual-flush system like the Drake II does.

The TOTO UltraMax II upgrades from the Ultramax with its Tornado flush system and EPA WaterSense certification. This UltraMax toilet is available in several different options

Our Final Take

Customers applaud the Ultramax II design. They love its easy installation, comfort, and powerful and efficient flush. However, a few customers mention the lid doesn’t always sit perfectly on the seat, and the toilet requires more maintenance than they thought.

Buying Guide for the Perfect TOTO

Like the Kohler and American Standard toilets, the TOTO toilets feature unique designs that make them easy to clean and ensure their bowls are thoroughly cleaned with every flush. Below are some design features you can expect from a TOTO toilet.

Cefiontect

The CeFionTect is a smooth glaze used to cover the bowl of the toilets to keep particles from sticking to their surfaces. This glaze helps the TOTO flush system work better because it doesn’t need much force or water to rinse or clear the bowl.

Skirted Design

The skirted design of TOTO toilets has numerous benefits. The clean lines and geometrical precision makes the toilet look modern and beautiful. And because the skirted design paves the way to a concealed trapway, maintaining and cleaning the toilet is much easier.

LinearCeram

The LinearCeram is an especially thin construction technique that uses a unique ceramic to produce a sophisticated and elegant look that is also strong.

Water Standard Certifications

Another emulative feature of the TOTO brand is they do not rely on their innovative minds alone. The TOTO team considers and strives to meet all the necessary certifications to provide maximum satisfaction to all its customers. TOTO toilets feature the following certifications:

photo showing different water certifications and toto toilet in middle image

  • LCA Transparency Report: This certification states that the toilet is made from eco-friendly materials and won’t harm the environment.
  • California Proposition 65: This certification assures buyers that the toilet is made from the safest, top-quality materials and does not contain chemicals that might cause health issues, like cancer, congenital disabilities, etc.
  • CalGreen: This standard addresses public health safety. It aims to reduce the negative impacts of production on people and the environment through effective designs in products from toilets to buildings.
  • USGBC: Like CalGreen, USBGC aims to foster a healthy environment and improve the quality of life.
  • Declare: This certification guarantees buyers that the product is made from materials that have been tested to be safe for human health and use.

General TOTO Features to Consider

A few things to consider before buying a TOTO toilet include:

Toilet Types

High-efficiency toilets, otherwise called HETs, are the best sellers today. HETs are rising fast because they do not use much water but still perform very well. These toilets are EPA-WaterSense-certified. So, you should be on the lookout for toilets that do not go beyond a 1.6GPF water rating.

ADA-compliant toilets are also another thing you should look out for. ADA compliance in toilets means the toilet has a height of at least 17-inches. This makes the toilet tall enough for easy, comfortable sitting and makes them good toilets for the elderly and people with disability.

Most times, you can have a HET in an ADA-compliant height. So, you wouldn’t have to make a compromise on quality.

Finally, we have the flush systems. You’ve got the water efficiency covered, so you need a good flush for the low water use toilet. This is another factor of the HET (high-efficiency toilets). Gravity-assisted flush systems are more common than pressure-assisted flush systems because they are usually quieter.

As both names imply, the gravity-assisted flush system uses gravity to drain the waste from the toilet bowl and into the sewage system. In contrast, pressure-assisted flush systems rely on water pressure to force the waste through the bowl and into the sewage system.

Some modern toilets also feature dual-flush systems that allow them to use even less water without losing flush power.

For more information on the dual-flush toilets, please check our guide.

The Design

In design, TOTO toilets explore styles in construction, their bowls, their mounting style, and several others.

Construction

The TOTO toilets come in two primary models: one-piece and two-piece designs.

One-piece models mold their bowls with their tanks, while two-piece toilets have their bowls and tanks separately, which are then fused during installation. The one-piece toilets take up less space and are suitable for small bathrooms because they often have smaller rough-in fittings. Still, the two-piece toilets are more common in homes because they are cheaper and lighter.

Both of these toilets could be either floor-mounted or wall-mounted.

As their names imply, floor-mounted toilets are installed on the floor, while wall-mounted toilets are fitted to the wall. Most customers with luxurious bathrooms prefer wall-mounted toilets because they look incredibly stylish. Plus, wall-mounted toilets, though less space-efficient, are easy to maintain.

Bowl

The bowl shape of the toilet is another important factor to consider before buying a toilet. The two most common toilet bowl shapes are the round-front bowls and the elongated bowls.

Round fronts are better for small bathrooms because they take up less space than the elongated bowl toilets. But because elongated bowl toilets have more sitting space than round front bowls, they are more comfortable.

You should also note that because elongated bowl toilets are a few inches bigger than round-front bowl toilets, they have to be placed in positions that will not interfere with other bathroom fixtures, like the door or drawers.

Rough-In

It is important to take note of your bathroom’s rough-in size to prepare for your new purchase. Older bathrooms often have rough-in widths that are not suitable for modern toilets’ construction.

The rough-in of a toilet is the space between the wall behind the toilet and the center of the waste pipe – that should be beneath the toilet’s base. The most common rough-in length is 12-inches. But rough-in measurements can vary anywhere from 10 to 14 inches.

The TOTO brand features all three rough-in measurements: 10, 12, and 14, with some of its models fitted with adaptations that allow them to fit more than one rough-in size.

Other Features

Beyond its generic features, the TOTO brand also offers smart toilets. Smart toilets have functions like NightLight Illumination, which lets the toilet seat glow in the dark and makes it easy to locate even when the power is out.

Some TOTO toilets come with remote controls for a totally hands-off experience. This includes foot warmers, automatic flush systems, and even sensors that notify their owners of leaks.

However, these features may not always come cheap. Common practice is, “the higher the tech, the higher the price,” so it is essential to determine what function you’d need in your bathroom.

Remember, you spend a lot of time in the bathroom, specifically on the toilet, so it is worth the extra thought.

This toilet is a high-efficiency eco-friendly toilet that’s a great option for any home!

    Flushing Power

The UltraMax II is equipped with the classic TOTO Tornado Flush system, a highly-efficient flushing design that removes waste in a matter of seconds. The system utilizes two nozzles to create a centrifugal force that reduces waste build up.

With 1.28 gallons per flush, the UltraMax II is a solid eco-friendly choice, saving you roughly 20 percent on your annual water bill, compared to traditional 1.6 gpf toilets. To flush the toilet simply press the chrome-finish ever which is located either on the left or right hand side – you get to choose!

This video gives you a behind-the-scenes look into the Tornado Flush system, along with a side-by-side flushing comparison.

    Great Design

The Ultramax-II is a one-piece toilet with a chrome-plated trip lever. The unit weighs around 100 pounds and even comes with a SoftClose toilet seat. The SoftClose seat prevents unintentional slamming, which increases the seat’s lifespan.

A comfortable seat height is a crucial factor to consider when purchasing a toilet. The UltraMax II has a 17 ¼ -inch toilet seat, similar to a basic dining chair. Universal Height chairs are designed for accessibility; a taller toilet tends to be more comfortable for those with disabilities and the elderly by alleviating pressure from the knees.

The UltraMax II also comes with CEFIONTECT ceramic glaze, which prevents bacteria and grime from sticking to the toilet’s exterior. If you’re not interested in the CEFIONTECT glaze, the MS604114CEF is an alternate UltraMax model you can purchase instead.

We recommend the ceramic glaze because what’s better than simple hacks that help eliminate cleaning time? Thanks to the glaze, the scrubbing days are over; the toilet only requires an easy wipe down every once in a while.

The UltraMax II comes in cotton, bone, colonial white, sedona beige, and ebony (which is not available in CEFIONTECT). The no-modifications UltraMax II is called MS604114CEFG; the MS604114CEFRG is the same unit except it has the trip lever on the right hand side.

    Special Features and Highlights

To clean your undercarriage, TOTO Washlets have a warm-water nozzle that usually offers two modes; pulsating and oscillating. Washlets also include a drying system with an adjustable temperature, which allows for a completely hands-free experience.

These models also feature a heated seat that allows you to adjust the temperature between 86 and 104 degrees and come with an integrated sensor that maintains the desired temperature.

The dual flushing system saves a significant amount of water each year, and most units also come with an automatic flush or remote control. After using the toilet, the self-cleaning function will clean and sanitize the unit so that it is ready for the next use.

Each device also comes with a side control panel, similar to a TV remote control, for easy customization with every use.

    Additional Features

Let’s review some other features TOTO offers – some of these are optional add-ons that can be quite useful, for just a small fee. Let’s check some of the extra technologies available.

    Smart Seat

Some TOTO Toilets feature a Smart Seat, but what is it actually? It’s a special seat that uses both sensors and WiFi to flush and clean the bowl for you. Some units can even open and close the seat for you, which brings a modern feeling to every bathroom.

    CeFIONtect

This special toilet glaze has two main advantages. First, it prevents bacteria and mold build-up, making toilet usage more hygienic. Second, it keeps the toilet clean much longer than a classic glaze would.

    Skirted Design

Available with many TOTO models, this type of design refers to a seamless shape from bowl to floor. There are no traditional curves so it is easier to clean.  Although this design might look minimalist, it perfectly fits any modern bathroom, adding elegance and smoothness.

    ADA Compliant

Most TOTO toilets are ADA compliant. ADA compliance assures the model is designed to be easily accessible for people with disabilities. In particular, ADA compliant toilets will be taller than the typical toilet, making them easier to sit on.

    Wireless Remote Control

With the Wireless Remote Control, you can access various features even from outside the bathroom. For example, you can clean and deodorize the bowl remotely, or even open/close the seat, with just a single button.

Toto smart toilet adjustable water and spray pressure

    Dual-Action Spray

Dual-action spray is a nice feature that reduces your maintenance time and increases flexibility of the washlet. It includes a self-cleaning wand, and some models also come with oscillation action. Unfortunately, you might need to adjust the wand each time, since there is no memory function. However, for a customized spray each time, we think this feature is well worth the cost.

    TOTO Washlet Model Comparisons

There are 10 different TOTO Washlet models to choose from starting with the A100 and ending with the S350 and S550.  The G400 is an excellent choice for smaller bathrooms.

When choosing a unit, note that A100 is the most basic model. The S-series, then, are top of the range. Which model is best for you all depends on which features you want in your washlet.

    1. TOTO S350E vs. TOTO S550E

At the first glance, these two models look very similar. They also have very similar features. So, what is the difference?

The first model is the slimmest while the S550E is thicker. Also, the S350E has a round seat while the seat of S550E is elongated, although there is no big difference in actual size. There is a slight difference in power consumption, however. While Toto S550E uses around 1300W, the S330E uses only 840W. Also, the remote control of the S550E is a bit slimmer and slightly elongated.

    2. TOTO G400 vs. TOTO G500

These two toilets are ideal for smaller bathrooms, especially if you want a flush that uses gravity. They both feature a tankless design that looks simply amazing.

The features on both of these units are very similar. They feature a Tornado flushing system, a comfortable height, and an elongated bowl. Also, they come with an auto-open/close lid and have a built-in air deodorizer.

Of course, they both feature wireless remote control. Some models such as S350E have additional features, but they also come at a higher price. Because these units are both so similar, you can rely on your personal preference for the price, look, and smaller details to select the right option for you.

    Avoiding Common Mistakes

Before you buy your favorite TOTO Washlet model, make sure that the unit you have chosen is compatible with your toilet.  What exactly do you need to check?

Toilet Fit within your Bathroom Space

You should check the dimensions of your toilet bowl. Measure the distance between two bolt holes, which is where the washlet should fit. If the dimensions don’t fit exactly,  it’s okay as long as the difference is not higher than 0.25 inches.

Then, check the distance between the center of the tank and the bolt hole. The distance should be at least 1.75 inches. Also, the surface needs to be completely flat. If the bowl is curved, you might have problems sitting on the washlet.

    Minimum Water Pressure

All units operate in the pressure range between 7.25 and 108.75 PSI. The average household has a water pressure between 20 and 120 PSI. Since the minimum requirement is very low for the washlet, you shouldn’t have any problems.

If you need to check the pressure in your home, you will need to buy a pressure gauge, which you can find in most home improvement stores. To measure, just screw the unit onto the hose and turn on the water at maximum. You will get the correct readings very quickly.

If your pressure is fine, but pipes have a small diameter, you still may encounter problems with the water volume. These problems could be caused by corrosion, which would require help from a plumber to fix.

    Parts List

On its own, a washlet is not a complete toilet. It’s more like a high-tech seat that sits on top of the toilet. Although it’s advised to use TOTO Washlets with TOTO toilets, you can mount one onto other toilets. However, before you buy a washlet, be sure to check our guide on how to do the proper measurements.Toto smart toilet install parts

Let’s take a look at what is included with these units.

You will get a heated seat with a lid unit that should be mounted on top of the current toilet. Make sure that the current toilet is completely flat and has no curves. The washlets also comes with a control panel or remote control. Depending on the model, it will be placed next to the unit or on the wall. You can use it for activating water streams, changing water temperature, etc.

Next, you will get a water filter with a drain that goes behind the toilet, so that the water can reach the spray wand properly. The package will also include a water supply hose. You will find a water supply port on the unit, so make sure to attach the hose to it. Finally, the package should also include a jet spray wand that goes below the lid and sprays the water.

    Additional Special Parts

Depending on the model purchased, the package may also include a self-cleaning nozzle. Some units might have a nozzle that works automatically due to the sensor while others can be manually or remotely operated.

    What about Installation?

    TOTO smart toilet install

Just like the TOTO Aquia IV Washlet, the installation of this incredible product requires a 12-inch rough-in into the waste pipe.  The water supply should be 11-7/16-inches to the left from the centerline of the closet flange while facing the bowl. Additionally, this toilet comes with a 12-inch rough-in, and mounting and connection hardware. Depending on the model, you may want to work with a professional for the installation of your TOTO Washlet.

    Certifications

Many TOTO Washlets offer EPA WaterSense certification which means that they use a minimal amount of water while providing optimal flush performance, decreasing your monthly bills, and helping the environment.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Washlet Hard to Install?

This unit is not complicated to install, yet it’s not as simple as a regular toilet. If you have some DIY experience, it shouldn’t be a problem. The unit comes with a very clear and precise user manual. However, if you’re going for a particularly complex option, you may want to consider working with a professional.

How Do I Power my TOTO Washlet Toilet?

Most units are powered by an outlet, with a power cord included to fully install and power your washlet.

Do Toto Washlet Toilets Flush Automatically?

Yes! In particular, the G400 flushes automatically before the lid closes. However, you can also disable this feature if you want to flush manually. Look at the specific unit you’re considering to confirm if it includes this feature.

With the TOTO Drake collection, the magic is in the details. While the two-piece elongated unit features many universal elements present in the collection, we find its specific design perks make the toilet a comfortable fit, worthy of extra-praise.

    Excellent Flushing System

The TOTO Drake collection is equipped with the all-powerful TOTO Tornado flushing system.

The toilet’s two powerful nozzles create an ultra-strong centrifugal force that takes care of business without leaving any remnants or streaks behind.

The powerful nozzles are used instead of traditional rim holes to efficiently clean out the bowl with every flush.

The TOTO Drake Two-Piece Elongated unit uses 1.6 gallons per flush – an industry standard.

However, paired with the Tornado Flush system, any worry about clogging goes out the window.

    Advanced Cleaning Technology

All TOTO Drake models are equipped with TOTO’s signature CEFIONTECT glaze.

This glaze uses an ion-barrier to reduce the chance of grime and bacterial buildup.

What does this mean for you? No need for daily toilet wipe-downs. CEFIONTECT takes care of most of the work, so all you have to do is occasionally wipe down the toilet with mild soap and water.

The TOTO Drake collection is also designed with a larger-than-most water spot that helps eliminate tough-to-reach spaces that attract waste. The toilets’ rimless design prevents dirt from clinging to the top of the toilet bowl, making cleaning up a breeze.

    Design Specs

We love the TOTO Drake two-piece model because of its accessible features and easy installation. The toilet’s rim height stands at 16 ⅛”, satisfying ADA standards.

A user’s body weight can be easily dispersed thanks to the comfortable elongated bowl.

The toilet comes with a left-hand chrome-plated trip lever and a 12” rough-in that reduces any chance of waste buildup.

This two-piece toilet has been praised for its simple installation process, with a 4.6 out of 5 star rating.

The product comes with the tank and bowl; a seat and wax ring are not included.

However, you can upgrade your user experience by purchasing the additional WASHLET electronic bidet seat.

We highly recommend purchasing the bidet seat as the two-piece elongated unit is exceptionally well-priced. For all the bang you get for your buck, why not splurge a little bit and upgrade your bathroom experience to the one you deserve?

The toilet is available in cotton, colonial white, sedona beige, and bone. If you’re not interested in the CEFIONTECT glaze, the unit also comes in black.

Users rave about how easy the unit is to install and how every flush delivers without fail. Reviewers talk about buying multiple units for their home and being delighted by the performance of each and every one.

The most common complaints aren’t about the toilet’s performance. Users wish the product came with a toilet seat and wax ring. But at this price, buying a seat separately is no big deal.

    Drake Toilet Model Round Up

Still undecided if the Drake is the right toilet for your home? We listed some comparisons of other TOTO models against the Drake.

Drake Two-Piece Dual Flush vs. Drake Elongated 1.28 GPF Models

“Looking for an eco-friendly and affordable unit? The TOTO Drake Two-Piece Dual Flush is the way to go for water-saving, reliable performance.”

“The TOTO Elongated 1.28GPF model is ideal for buyers in need of a comfortable, inclusive unit that want to save money without sacrificing performance.”

We’ll cut right to the chase. The TOTO Drake Two-Piece Elongated 1.6 gallons per flush is an all-around superb model that gives you high quality performance without breaking the bank. It’s the best economic choice if your number one priority is finding a durable, affordable model.

However, a few extra bucks can provide you some new features that may make the investment worth it. The TOTO Drake Two-Piece Elongated Dual Flush 1.28 and 0.8 gallons per flush (MS746124CEMG#01) model consists of everything the name tells you. The dual-flushing mechanism allows you to select between .8 and 1.28 gallons per flush based on your waste load.

This toilet is more expensive than our Editor’s Choice as it comes with a SoftClose seat. Deck out the model further by selecting between a cotton, brushed nickel, or polished nickel trip lever.

More expensive than the dual flush unit, the Elongated 1.28 gallons per flush is a new model that saves you money and water through its efficient flush. Compared to the 1.6 gallons per flush standard, the Elongated 1.28 gallons per flush model saves you 20 percent on your annual water bill. While the initial investment may be slightly more than what you get with our Editor’s Choice, the water savings may be worth it.

TOTO Drake vs. TOTO Drake II

You may wonder what the difference is between the Drake and Drake II models. While they’re both based on the same design, there are a few key differences in both flush efficiency and interior technology to consider.

    Water Consumption Compared

To keep things simple, if you want a water-saving toilet, you should buy the TOTO Drake II over the TOTO Drake. However, if you want a toilet with a powerful flush that’s also affordable, the TOTO Drake would be a better choice.

Ultimately, the Drake II consumes only 1.28 gallons per flush, whereas the Drake has a stronger flush but requires more water, consuming 1.6 gallons per flush.

MaP Score and Flush Technology Compared

As mentioned above, the Drake actually has a stronger flush compared to the Drake II. When comparing their MaP scores, while the Drake II has a strong score slightly above 800 grams, the Drake has an amazing MaP score of 1000 grams.

This difference in flush strength is likely due to the different flush technology each toilet uses. The original Drake has a G-Max flush, while the Drake II uses Tornado flush technology to save 20% more water than the Drake.

    Certifications Compared

Finally, comparing certifications between both options, the original Drake is WaterSense Certified while the Drake II is both WaterSense Certified and ADA-compliant. While the first model is good for both home and commercial use, the Drake II is ideal for home use in particular.

TOTO Drake II vs. TOTO Ultramax II

It’s also worth discussing the major differences between both popular TOTO models, the Drake II and the Ultramax II.

    MaP Score & Certification Similarities

To start, there are a number of similarities between both models, particularly with their qualifications. They both meet various certifications, including ADA compliance, EPA WaterSense, and CAL Green.

They both also have MaP ratings above 800 grams, which is very good. However, there are a couple of key differences to consider as well.

    Affordability and Maintenance

For example, the TOTO Drake II is both more affordable and much easier to install as a two-piece toilet. The TOTO Drake II also offers a slightly more powerful flush, while the Ultramax II is more oriented toward water saving.

Both models feature a Sanagloss finish for easy maintenance, but as a one-piece toilet, the Ultramax II is ultimately easier to clean and maintain.

    SoftClose Seat

One final detail to consider is that, unlike the Ultramax II, the Drake II doesn’t come with a SoftClose seat.

Therefore, if you want a SoftClose seat, which can minimize damage and noise when closing the toilet, you will need to factor in the additional expense when buying the Drake II.

    The TOTO Collection

The TOTO Drake toilet collection may feel a bit overwhelming at first, but have no fear. The models are relatively similar with minor details that can specifically tailor to your preferences.

All TOTO Drake toilets come with the state-of-the-art Tornado Flush system and CEFIONTECT glaze. They are available in cotton, colonial white, sedona beige, bone, and black (without the CEFIONTECT glaze). For an extra cost, you can match the trip-lever’s color to the rest of the toilet.

    Elongated Drake Models

The most basic elongated TOTO Drake models are the CST776CEG and CST776CSG, which use 1.28 and 1.6 gallons per flush, respectively. The CST776CERG is only slightly different, including a right hand trip-lever.

The CST776CEFG is the same model as the TOTO Drake two-piece elongated unit except that it uses 1.28 gallons per flush instead. This is a solid choice if you’re looking to cut back on water usage.

The CST776CEFG.10 and CST776CASFG.10 units include the most features. They are ADA-complaint, with a universal height, and include a 10” rough-in. These units use 1.28 and 1.6 gallons per flush respectively.

    Round Drake Models

Some users prefer a round bowl as it feels more comfortable to them and better fits their bathroom space. The TOTO Drake collection has a wide range of round models that offer the same quality service as their elongated counterparts.

The CST775CEFG and CST775CSFG, using 1.28 and 1.6 gallons per flush respectively, are ADA-compliant units standing at a universal height. The CST776CEFRG, only available in a 1.28 gallons per flush make, includes all these features and also comes with a right hand trip-lever. The CST775CEFRG, includes all the same features as the CST776CEFRG model; it’s a slightly older model and is cheaper as a result.

The CST776CEFRG.10 is the most decked-out TOTO Drake, with its ADA-compliant design, universal height, 10” rough-in and right-hand trip lever.

Flushing Technology of the Drake Collection

Here we discuss the four different type of flush technology that Drake toilets use.

G-Max vs. E-Max vs. Tornado Flush

The most common flushing technologies in this collection are the G-Max and E-Max.

Although the name is pretty similar, there are a couple of differences to call out between both options:

    E-Max Flush Technology

The E-Max flushing system can generate powerful and consistent flushes using the combination of an extra-large siphon jet and a wide 3-inch valve.

The system is simple and quiet, consuming only 1.28 gallons per flush.

    G-Max Flush Technology

This flushing technology is pretty similar to the previous one. However, the main difference is that G-Max consumes 1.6 gallons per flush and is less water-efficient.

However, sometimes it can be considered more powerful thanks to the additional water flow.

    Tornado Flush Technology

Another popular flushing technology is the Tornado DYNAMAX system, which sends all the water through the rim of the toilet. This approach ensures that water thoroughly cleans the entire bowl while removing all the waste. You’ll often find this system also paired with a coating like CEFIONTECT, which helps ensure all waste is easily removed in one flush.

Ultimately, the Drake models that include the Tornado DYNAMAX design offer a quiet but powerful flush operation.

    Final Thoughts

You can’t go wrong with a unit in the TOTO Drake collection. TOTO is a well-established brand that delivers high-quality performance through their well-thought out designs. The Drake collection pieces are marginally different, and all include the same core features that make TOTO so great. The only things you need to decide upon are minor - such as bowl shape, lever placement, and ADA-compliance.

    Supreme’s Design

The TOTO Supreme II toilet is made from vitreous china and has a CEFIONTECT™ glaze finish.

CEFIONTECT prevents waste from sticking to the ceramic surface of the toilet, cutting down on cleaning time.

It is available in cotton, bone, colonial white, sedona beige, and ebony (not available in CEFIONTECT). The toilet comes with a low-profile tank, bowl, seat, and chrome trip lever on the right hand side.

Toto Supreme-2 1.28gpf toilet You can purchase the toilet in the MS634114CEFG model – with CEFIONTECT glaze and a SoftClose seat – as well as the MS634114CEF model – that comes with less CEFIONTECT but with the same SoftClose seat.

The bidet is compatible with all Supreme II models besides the MS634114CEFG#11.

You’ll notice on the TOTO website the Supreme II collection consists of models that look and sound the same except for the letter-number combo at the end of their name.

These letter combos correspond to different control mechanism types for the Washlet+.

While this is a minor difference, familiarizing yourself with what control type works best for you makes the overall user experience exponentially better.

    Summary of Recent Reviews

Buyers agree that the flush is efficient with this toilet, even though it is a water-saving design.  Reviewers shared that they are pleased with the stylish design, and are happy with the included SoftClose seat.

The most common complaint is about the toilet’s price, even without the Washlet+ add-on.

We agree that the price is a bit steep and not affordable for everyone; however, the Supreme II should be seen as an investment piece that will serve for many years to come.

    Main Features

Here we discuss the top three highlighted features of the TOTO Entrada toilet.

    Powerful Flushing System

The TOTO Entrada toilet, like many other TOTO toilets, features the E-Max technology, which allows the toilet to produce a very powerful flush while remaining water-efficient.

The flushes of the Entrada are low volume, very powerful and extremely efficient. Due to the 3-inch flush valve, the flushes are also very quick and consistent.

This type of flushing system offers you additional water savings of up to 20% compared to standard toilets.

    Water Efficiency

Older toilets usually consume from two and a half to seven gallons of water per flush while still clogging from time to time.

The TOTO Entrada removes all waste in just one flush while consuming only 1.28 gallons.

As discussed above, this unit accomplishes better results while using less water thanks to the E-Max technology.

Therefore, this toilet also meets EPA WaterSense criteria.

    Sleek and Modern Design

With this toilet, aside from great features, you also get a sleek and stylish design, from the eye-catching modern chrome lever to its durable, high-quality construction materials.

Moreover, the Entrada has a universal height, making it extremely comfortable for all users, including children, the elderly, and disabled individuals.

    Pro and Cons

    Positive Comments

    • Very sturdy
    • Great performance

    Negative Comments

    • Seat not included

    Comparisons –  G-Max vs. E-Max Flush Technologies

    CST243EF#01 TOTO Entrada toilet

Both of these systems operate in a very similar way. They both have a fully glazed trapway, as well as a 3-inch flush valve. The difference between the E-Max and the G-Max is in the amount of water per flush. The G-Max flushing systems consume 1.6 gallons of water per flush.

On the other hand, the E-Max consumes only 1.28 GPF, making it more eco-friendly compared to the G-Max.

    Installation

Many people don’t want to hire a plumber for toilet installation because of the extra cost. Luckily, with the TOTO Entrada two-piece toilet, you likely won’t need a plumber.

As long as you’re able to mount the wax ring and bolts, you should be able to install this toilet on your own. The only disadvantage is that you must purchase the seat separately as it isn’t included.

    Summary of Recent Reviews

Customers are raving about this toilet.  From the ease of installation, flushing power, water efficiency, and durability, this is a great toilet choice.  Buyers appreciate the power of this toilet.  Multiple customers used this to replace an old toilet and are happy with the performance- “Have used this model for six years and am very satisfied.”

    Final Verdict

All in all, this toilet offers great performance and efficiency at a very affordable price. Although the seat for Entrada isn’t included, it can be bought separately. We highly recommend a soft-close type of seat. Ultimately, the TOTO Entrada’s construction is quite sturdy and long-lasting while being stylish enough to blend into any bathroom easily.

This toilet’s unique look is one of its best assets.

    Flushing Power

The TOTO Aimes has one of the most effective flushing systems on the market, called the Tornado Flush. The Tornado Flush uses a dual-nozzle system to harness gravity to create a centrifugal force that makes the bowl stay cleaner for longer.

The toilet reliably provides effective, clog-free flushing while using only 1.28 gallons of water per flush. Plus, due to its smooth and sleek surface, it will always keep the bowl perfectly clean, and prevent bacteria, mildew, dirt, and particles from sticking. It’s an ideal choice if you are looking for a powerful, effective, and hygienic unit for your bathroom.

    Design Features

The first thing that you’ll notice about the Aimes’s design is its minimalistic, sleek, and luxurious design. The tank is angular and flows nicely into the glossy bowl. The clean geometric shape not only looks elegant, but is also easier to clean due to the lack of nooks and crannies.

The toilet is available in cotton and sedona beige. Made to order models are available in bone, colonial white, and ebony (without CEFIONTECT). A chrome plated trip lever is included.

CEFIONTECT is TOTO’s glaze technology that prevents bacteria and tiny particles from sticking to the toilet’s exterior. This means all you have to do is give the toilet a nice wipe down every other week with mild soap and water. You can purchase the MS626124CEFGA model with CEFIONTECT glaze and the SoftClose seat or the MS626124CEF model without CEFIONTECT and the seat.

The included seat is the SoftClose model, which prevents unintentional slamming. The seat is designed to close slowly once pushed down to avoid noise. The slow closing of the seat also increases the seat’s lifespan by significantly decreasing wear-and-tear.

The Aimes comes with the standard 12” rough-in but a 10” or 14” rough-in is available as well.

One of the great factors of this toilet is that it is ADA compliant, if the trip lever is installed on the approach side. With a seat height of 17.25” and an elongated bowl and seat, the toilet is accessible to all users. What’s better than a toilet that is as comfortable as it is stylish?

TOTO’s premier removable bidet, the Washlet+, is compatible with all models in the Aimes collection. You’ll notice on the TOTO website the Aimes toilet collection consists of different units that look and sound the same except for the letter-number combo at the end of their name.

These letter combos correspond to different control mechanism types for the Washlet+. While this is a minor difference, familiarizing yourself with what control type works best for you makes the overall user experience exponentially better.

    Pro and Cons

    What We Love

    • 1.28 gpf and Tornado Flush system
    • SoftClose seat included
    • CEFIONTECT glaze

    What Need Attention

    • On the expensive side

    Summary of Recent Reviews

The TOTO Aimes has over 70% five star reviews on Amazon. Users love the toilet’s quality, angular design, flushing system, and height. The most common complaint is the toilet’s price. Considering the cost of Washlet+, purchasing the Aimes and the bidet results in a pretty hefty upfront cost.
